Personal Stories at New NY Crossroads

Irina Shapirkina - Russia

Nov. 2, 2005

I came to America in 2003. Before that I lived in Russia. When I lived in Gomel, it was easy because I speak the Russian language. But in America, I have to study and learn English. Everybody in my family is having a difficult time.

I knew I had to have a house, a real house....one I could point to and say, "that's mine". Someday I will have a best friend. I would like someone to joke with and laugh with in spite of stress.

Now, I'm going to school. I find many friends. That's important. People in America are very good and I love American people.
