New NY Crossroads: Global Immigrant Stories by Vedat Akman, a recent New NY Crossroads publication, offers help and hope to immigrants around the world. Our web site and second book titled: New NY Crossroads®: Global Immigrant Stories are the manifestations of our desire to work towards world peace. We invite all cities of the world to embrace their immigrants and welcome them into their communities. Our approach is fundamentally comparative, the main theme being the possibility of love and understanding “across cultures.”
To inspire global participation in our new book and New NY Crossroads® 2006 Short Film Festival and Competition, New NY Crossroads.com with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Istanbul and Globalimmigrant.org formed a solid partnership. We hope that you will join us in our journey towards Peace by embracing those who are new to your lands, cultures and customs. Let us do what we can to make them welcome. When it comes to our human family, the important thing is Love. Borders are temporary and arbitrary. Kindness lasts forever. Our common purpose is to show the rest of the world:
That all human beings can be developed
That all are equal
That the world is interdependent
That the world does not belong to humans, but that humans belong to the world
That every human being is a citizen of the world
In our New York team we have some fantastic people who are also immigrants themselves. They work together with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Istanbul team and Globalimmigrant.org team in Dublin to help make life better for other immigrants in New York and else where in the world. We say good deeds and good stories should be shared, so here are the stories of New NY Crossroads® “Serving humanity is the best work of life.”
As is our practice, a portion of the proceeds for this book and DVD compilation will go to the non-profit organization Food for Children headquartered in New York City to help those we can with food, medicines, education, clean water and shelter. About the Author:
Vedat Akman is a nonfiction author of self-help books, all of which are quite popular, partly because of his writing style that is mentoring and yet warm and witty. Consequently, many of his self-help books have positively influenced public figures in their communities, including young people who have gone on to lead more successful lives as a result. Niçin New York ?
New York Dünyanın en büyük göç şehridir. Amerika’da 400 binin üzerinde yaşayan vatandaşımızın çoğunluğu New York şehrinde yerleşiktir. Her sene yaklaşık 4000 vatandaşımız bu şehre yerleşmektedir. Amacımız göçmen sorunlarına global bir perspektifle yaklaşarak yurtdışında yaşayan vatandaşlarımızın da sorunlarına ve hayatlarına ışık tutabilmektir. İstanbul bir kültür merkezi, önemli bir göç yolu ve bir dünya şehridir. Biz genç filmcilerimizin dünyaya açılmasını ve dünyadaki genç filmcilerin de şehrimizi tanımalarını istiyoruz. Şehrimiz ve kültürümüz yıllarca yurtdışında yabancı filmlerde yanlış tanıtılmıştır. Nötral ve politika dışı bakış açısıyla, göçmen problemleri ve ülkemiz hakkında doğru yargılar geliştirilmesini arzuluyoruz. Bu bağlamda festival esnasında özellikle New York’ta İstanbul’un ve kültürümüzün tanıtımını yapmak istiyoruz.
Türkiye Kontenjanı
Hem Göçmenlik konusuna dikkat çekerek toplumsal faydayı arttırmak ve ülkemizdeki konuya ilişkin perspektifleri de dünya kamuoyu ile paylaşmak amacındayız. Bu düşüncede Türkiye için Jüri katılımı ve özel Türkiye seçmeleri konusunda imtiyazlı bir statü belirlendi. Dünyadan gelen katılımlar arasından ilk altı filmin gösterimi yanında Türkiye katılımlarında belirlenecek ilk altı film de İstanbul ve New York prömiyerlerinde gösterime sunulacaktır.

Sayın sinema tarihçisi ve yazar Giovanni Scognamillo ve kamuoyunun yakından tanıdığı seçkin isimlerden oluşan jürimiz değerli New York jürisi ile değerlendirmede birlikte çalışacaktır.

New Web site for Immigrants Arrives; Book is Coming Soon
New York, NY -- October 18, 2005 -- Immigrants celebrated like never before! New NY Crossroads brings together the whole picture of immigrant life in America. Traditionally, immigrant sites deal with services and referral information. New NY Crossroads does this and more. In addition to services, events and links, the world will be able to share in personal and authentic stories of immigration as told by those who know best.
What do immigrants need most when they arrive? Education, jobs, housing, medical insurance, just to name a few. But what about their personal experiences, their surprises, their highs and lows?
